Beyond The Fence is an abstract work using shape and mixed media to reflect the freedom of a garden patch on the ‘other side of the fence’ that is growing wild and uninhibited. With no-one to intervene and ‘keep it neat’ it is enjoying the ability to extend beyond the boundaries that we - as curators - like to impose.
I’ve used several techniques whilst creating this painting. I love to create works that are intuitive and expressive with many layers, textures and surprising elements. The blues reference the clear Spring day, and the colours and mark-making are random and haphazard - symbolising the ‘as it falls’ growth. Works that are borne from how things make me feel - not necessarily the image I am seeing. All my works hark back to where my mind has taken me to, and this piece is no different.
Although smaller in size, this work will create a beautiful statement when hung in the right space. It is dynamic and strong, linking back to the freedoms that are held in our spaces - if we only let that happen. It will draw you in and you will find many moments within the work that will bring you joy. Suitable for home or office.
