Companion In Grey is a subtle, emotionally layered painting exploring companionship and quiet strength through muted tones. This piece developed from mark making and these marks led me to see a buttoned up suit, with a tie and pocket handkerchief. I pushed into this narrative and created this work as a homage to those who wear suits - female or male. This piece brings to me the feeling of security and being in the presence of someone trusted.
I love to create works that are intuitive and expressive with many layers, textures and surprising elements. This work with its muted colour palette and expressive mark-making is bold, expressive and is borne from feeling safe. All my works hark back to where my mind has taken me to, and this piece is no different.
This is a mid-size work that is subtle, yet contains many interesting marks. It will work equally well in a home or office environment.
