Histories Written in Vastness is a work that reflects the histories held within the enormous emptiness and ruggedness of both land and sky in outback Australia.
Gorgeous, strong and bold colours are applied with a rawness and harshness that echo the history and severity of the outback. They reign across limitless stretches of what may appear to be nothing—yet, in truth, hold so much more.
Rugged landscapes peel away to reveal miles of endless dirt and sand, reflecting and refracting the intensity of the summer light and heat haze across the vastness. The work becomes a conversation between history, climate and landscape—a dialogue that shifts and evolves as the seasons move through their endless cycle.
I’ve used several techniques whilst creating this painting. I love to create works that are intuitive and expressive with many layers, textures and surprising elements. Works that are borne from how things make me feel - not necessarily the image I am seeing. All my works hark back to where my mind has taken me to, and this piece is no different.
Although smaller in size, this work will create a beautiful statement when hung in the right space. It is dynamic and strong, but also reflective and soulful. It will draw you in and you will find many moments within the work that will bring you joy. A beautiful little piece of original reflection just for you. Suitable for home or office.
